While his younger and more celebrated countryman Aronian garners more attention, Akopian will be quietly setting his sights on another strong Grand Prix finish, after his eye-opening 2nd place effort in Nalchik a few months ago. In fact, this result was not surprising to those who have followed his impressive career: 3 different World Jr. Championships, a finalist in the World Championship in 99, and countless other victories, Akopian has been an anchor on every one of the successful Armenian Olympiad efforts, including two gold medals in the two most recent events.
