A member of the strong Ukrainian national team, Eljanov is a formidable positional-styled player with a sound theoretical basis. Among his many successes, a couple of victories stand out: he won the prestigious Corus-B tournament in 2007, launching him into the world elite, and he dominated the Bosnia 2009 tournament a point and a half ahead of the field with an undefeated +4 result. One of three players representing Ukraine in Jermuk, Eljanov will be looking to rebound after consecutive disappointing performances in the previous two legs of the Grand Prix in Nalchik and Elista.
